What does the job entail?

Working with the General Counsel , the primary purpose would be the provision of high quality, business appropriate legal advice to all areas of the business. This would involve a broad range      of legal services to internal stakeholders mainly focusing on commercial agreements.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Providing legal advice and assistance to all areas of the business including: drafting, review and negotiation of customer contracts, supplier contracts, agency agreements and other agreements material to the business; development and implementation of new product offerings, including new contractual terms; customer queries and contractual disputes; new corporate business proposals/ventures. Legal compliance in relation to all activities of the business e.g. data protection
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of high value commercial contracts including OJEU tendered contracts
  • Advising in relation to customer service issues (including complaints) and other general legal issues
  • Support the continuous improvement of standard terms and conditions and legal processes
  • Advisory and/or management role in relevant business project
  • Any other reasonable duties as defined by management

Skills & Experience:

  • A qualified solicitor – 3 to 5 years PQE
  • Good understanding of commercial legal matters
  • Strong commercial awareness and pragmatic outlook
  • Have excellent commercial contract and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in a fast moving environment and a keen interest in working within the retail energy sector.
  • In house experience (desired but not essential)
  • Energy retail experience (desired but not essential)
  • A general understanding of GDPR
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and attention to detail
  • Use of on-line legal databases such as Practical Law
  • Needs to be a self-starter and able to work with limited direct supervision
  • Committed to providing excellent levels of service to internal customers
