The RAB is a government backed financing model designed to attract private investment into large scale infrastructure projects, such as Sizewell C a new nuclear power station.
The new RAB replaces the traditional financing model where investors would wait until the site is operational to see a return on investment, and lowers financing risks, reduces reliance on public borrowing, and is designed to encourage private investment into nuclear projects.
The funding is supported through a levy being added to all domestic and non-domestic UK consumers electricity invoice.
The infrastructure project is to support meeting the UK’s long term energy security and is a key pillar in Net Zero Strategy.
