What is the Energy Bill Relief Scheme (EBRS)?

The EBRS will help cut energy bills for businesses, charities and public-sector organisations between 1st October 2021 and 31st March 2023.

Who is eligible for the EBRS?

The scheme will apply to customers who are:

  1. on existing fixed price contracts that were agreed on or after 1st December 2021
  2. signing new fixed price contracts
  3. on deemed / out of contract or variable tariffs
  4. on flexible purchase or similar contracts

The scheme is intended to be of broad application but there may be very limited exclusions.

We will let customers know if they are eligible and the value of the discount to be applied.

Important Information for Flex Customers

  • Flex customers should continue to contract and hedge in line with their normal practices to avoid market disruptions
  • Cashing in or changing contracting positions or financial instruments subsequent to the announcement of the Scheme in order to increase the level of bill support required from government, or in order to become exposed to energy costs expected to be eligible for support, is expected to result in that support being refundable to government. Further details will be available in due course.

Non-domestic suppliers and consumers must not profit from the scheme other than for its intended purpose of providing relief on necessary energy bills. Any such activity will result in support being refundable to government and may be liable to further penalties.

What do I need to do?

Customers don’t need to take any action regarding the scheme

How will the discount be applied?

  1. Corona Energy will automatically apply the discount to eligible customer’s bills
  2. The discount for each eligible customer will vary depending on their contract type and circumstances
  3. The discount will be first seen in October 2022 bills, which are typically received in November 2022

How do I ensure I am billed accurately for the energy I consume?

Provide regular monthly reads by the 1st of the month.
